BAYONNE — On a freezing Tuesday earlier this month, United Water took The Jersey Journal on a tour of its facilities in the Peninsula City.
Things kicked off at the company’s pump station at 110 Oak St. with a PowerPoint presentation by Chris Riat, senior director of contract operations, who laid down the basics of Bayonne’s water system.
More than 110 miles of water mains stretch from the North Jersey District Water Supply Commission’s Wanaque and Monksville reservoirs in Passaic County to Bayonne. Those mains channel 10.5 million gallons of water per day to the Peninsula City, where, on average 8.5 million gallons are used per day.
